Submitting your website to Bing is simple

Bing is continuously adding and updating websites each time its spiders crawl the web. Bing does not automatically ad all websites to its search results, and does not make any guarantees about if or when a website might appear in Bing searches once it has been submitted. That being said, Bing does index most websites.

You will need to visit this webpage in order to let Bing know that you want them to crawl your website and index it. Just click on the link below. If you cannot link to the webpage for some reason, simply cut and paste the web address into your browser and navigate to the webpage.

http://www.maps.bing.com.au/docs/submit.aspx?FORM=SURE

Once you are at the website, simply follow the instructions and submit your website to be crawled by the Bing spiders.

Get onto Page No 1 of Bing

Bing indexes literally billions of web pages, and uses advanced methodologies to determine which of those pages should appear first in their search results. Unless your website is optimised to fit those methodologies, it is unlikely that your website will appear in the first page of results. This means it is unlikely that your business will attract new customers via the internet.

SEO Alchemist | Turning websites into gold

If you want your website to appear in the first page of Bing search results, you need a marketing partner who understands internet search – and has a proven track record of producing results. Exclusive to Web Splash, our SEO Alchemist packages are designed for businesses and organisations that want to appear on the first page of Bing results – but don’t want to spend a fortune to achieve it.

Important | Before you start tearing your hair out!

To successfully set up your email account (or check its set up) you will need all of the following information;

For incoming email, the email address attaching to the email account that you want to set up in Outlook. This was probably allocated to you by the company that hosts your domain name, your system administrator at work, or your Internet Service Provider (or ISP for short). The email address will look something like yourname@yourdomainname.com.au, or if it was provided by your ISP it will be something like yourname@yourISPsdomain.com.

For incoming email, the password attaching to the email account that you want to set up in Outlook. The password almost certainly would have been supplied to you by the people hosting your domain name, your system administrator at work, or by your ISP, probably at the same time that they allocated the email address to you. If you do not know what the password is you will need to contact whoever allocated you the email address and ask for it, or get them to set you a new one.

For incoming email, the name of the incoming mail server attaching to the email account that you wish to set up in Outlook. The company hosting your domain name, your system administrator at work, or your ISP will be able to tell you what this is. The incoming mail server will look something like mail.yourdomainname.com.au, or if you are setting up an email account provided to you by your ISP will look something like mail.yourISPsdomain.com. Again, if you do not know the name of the mail server you need to ask whoever it was that allocated you your email address.

For outgoing email, the username or email address (they are very often exactly the same) allocated to you by your ISP. The email address will look something like yourname@yourISPsdomain.com. If you are using a wireless broadband internet connection (especially if it is a pre-paid service) you may not have a username.

For outgoing email, the password allocated to you by your ISP. If you do not know what the password is you will need to check it with your ISP or ask them to allocate you a new one. Again, if you are using a wireless broadband internet connection you may not have a password.

For outgoing email, the name of your ISP’s outgoing mail server. This will be something like mail.yourISPsdomain.com. Your ISP will be able to tell you what this is. If you are using a wireless broadband internet connection you should check with you ISP to find out if you are required to use their server for outgoing email, and if so get technical support to guide you through their individual configuration process for outgoing email.

Important | Check this out with your ISP

It is pointless even starting to set up or test your email account without this information. If you do not have it, you will need to contact the company that hosts your domain name, your system administrator, or your ISP to obtain it. Be aware that many ISP’s will not permit you to use a mail server other than theirs to send outgoing email, and will absolutely insist that you use their mail servers for this purpose.

Where to go for instruction

Please look for the version of Microsoft Outlook that you are using, and link onto the web address. If you cannot link onto the web address for some reason, simply cut and paste the web address into your browser and navigate to the website. These are all web pages that have been set up and are maintained by Microsoft Corporation – so the information is straight from the horse’s mouth – good luck!

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the work put into making a site Search Engine friendly and making it rank well on the Search Engines by using suitable keywords, meta tags and quality content that work together in harmony.

Search Engine Marketing (SEM) is where the web site is listed through a combination of free or natural listings on search engines and quality link sites and paid listings to direct traffic to the web site. There are a number of ways to do paid listings – Pay Per Click (PPC), Pay for Inclusion (PFI), Pay Per Impression (PPI).

Pay Per Click: This is often termed as a sponsored link. Essentially you pay each time a visitor clicks on one of these types of links. A popular Pay Per Click programme is the Google Adwords which lists sponsored listings above and beside its free listings as well as Google Adsense to display listings on subscribing web sites. Other methods you may have seen are advertising banners and pop-up windows for advertising.

Pay For Inclusion: Some sites will ask you to pay before they include the web site on their listings. In some cases, they rank listings based upon how much you pay for a particular listing and the category of the listing. These sites are more likely to be termed Directory Sites. Some examples of popular directories are Yahoo! and Yellow Pages. Pay For Inclusion may be combined with Pay Per Click or other paid listing methods because the operators of the site providing the listing manually check the quality of your link or you might pay for a particular position or area on the provider’s site such as the top of major page. It needs to be noted that Pay For Inclusion doesn’t always mean that you will achieve a high ranking quickly, just simply that you have a better chance of achieving some kind of listing.

Pay Per Impression: This is not a very popular method and is only used by large organisations with large advertising budgets. It works in a similar way to Pay Per Click but instead of paying each time your listing is clicked, you pay each time your listing is displayed on the advertiser’s web site. If the site providing the advertising is extremely popular such as a News site, then your listing will be viewed more times and you pay accordingly. An example of this method was when Ford Motor Company launched their new model Explorer 4×4. They approached a globally recognised, high traffic web site and paid for their large listing to be displayed to every single viewer for a period of time. The budget for this was excessive but the tactic paid off.

Quality Link Sites: These are sites that have a high search engine ranking and provide a place for listings to web sites (often in the form of text or banner links). Quality Link Sites will sometimes place your listing on other sites through Pay For Inclusion methods. Examples of these types of sites are Online Shopping Malls that do not sell anything directly but display your listing, product or service for visitors to click and follow to your site. They will often provide some kind of tracking code to be attached to your web site so they can monitor the quality of your listings as well as provide a method of reporting (also known as ROI – Return On Investment). Care needs to be taken that the Link Site is of reputable standing and not a site that will spam other sites with your listings. Spamming of sites with unwelcomed listings will severly damage your search engine rankings or worse, cause you to be removed completely (black listed).

Reciprocal Links: These are links exchanged with other well ranking quality web sites in order to establish external links to your web site. They do not always generate high traffic but are helpful in establishing search engine rankings. The general rule is that a web site with lots of quality external links is likely to be ranked higher because it has a higher visible presence on the Internet. Again, care needs to be taken that links are exchanged only with quality sites to avoid spamming and black listing. Recipical links are usually free but may be restricted to lower ranking sites unless you achieve a certain ranking on Search Engines (otherwise known as a Page Ranking). Most recipical links sites prefer to link with sites that have a Page Ranking of 2 or higher.

Return On Investment (ROI): The results achieved through a linking campaign and reported through tracking code supplied by the advertising site. This is often the best method for Ecommerce web sites to guage their performance and value of the advertising on a particular site. The tracking code will usually record and report back to the advertising site the value of a particular sale associated with the click that was followed to your site. The cost of the number of clicks (if the listing was a paid listing) to date or over a period of time is then weighed against the total value of the sales from your web site and resulting in a percentage much in the same way as the effectiveness of traditional media such as newspaper advertising can be determined based upon how many enquiries it generates and how many of those enquiries become sales.

Which domain name?

When you need to build a website for your business or organisation, one of the first things you will need to do is select a domain name. A domain name is a bit like a telephone number – it’s the place that people call up (using their web browser) to find out about you and what you do. It might also be a place where they go shopping for goods and service that you provide. So what is the best domain name for you?

Think about how people will find you online

Firstly, you need to consider exactly how people will find you online. Will potential customers be directed to your website via another medium – like newspaper or magazine advertising, radio or television – or something completely different? Are you planning to rely upon people finding you via internet search engines like Google, Yahoo! and Bing?

Think about who will be using your website

Secondly, you need to consider exactly who will be using your website. Will it only be existing customers? Will it be potential new customers? How old will the typical visitor to your website be? How educated will those visitors be about you and what you do?

Think about what you want visitors to do on your website

Thirdly, you need to think about what you want visitors to your website to do. Do you want them to purchase something right then and there? Do you want them to come and visit you at a retail location? Do you want them to call your 1800 number and place an order? Do you want them to send you an email and make an appointment to see a representative?

If your business or brand is already well known

If your business is well known, or distributes a well known brand, a domain name allied to that might be a great investment. For example, just about every person on the planet knows the Coca Cola brand – and if you owned the Coca Cola brand you might want to purchase the cocacola.com domain name. Because the brand is so widely known, people would simply type cocacola.com into the search bar of their web browser and assume that they would find the product they are looking for there (and in the case of Coca Cola they’d be right). Perhaps the same applies to your own name or brand – and if it the name is available for registration – you really should purchase it.

If you are directing people to your website from elsewhere

If you are directing people to your website from elsewhere, you want to make your domain name as memorable as possible. If you are a mechanic, and name like mechanic.com.au would be just great. It’s also unlikely that you would be able to get a generic domain name like that unless you wanted to spend big money on it. Maybe your business operates within a tight geographic region and is visible to passing traffic – many independent real estate agencies fit this profile – so you could use your own name, perhaps like sunshinerealestate.com.au.

If you want people to find you via the internet

Most small businesses are not well enough know that people will look for them specifically on the internet. It’s far more likely that people will type some key words into a search engine and look for “mechanics Epping” or “real estate agents Sunnybank Hills”. If your business fit this profile, maybe you could consider a domain name like mechanicepping.com.au, or sunnybankrealestate.com.au. This help both search engines and visitors to identify what your business does and where it is located.

Why not consider more than one domain name?

Many businesses and organisations have more than one domain name. For example, they might have mybusinessname.com.au, which is used for print based advertising and email, and whatmybusinessdoes.com.au to use on the search engines. In this case, the domain owner would simply point mybusinessname.com.au to the whatmybusinessdoes.com.au website. Some businesses purchase multiple domain names simply to protect them from competitors.

Where can you purchase a domain name?

Australia has hundreds of domain sellers and resellers. If you are not familiar with information technology and are unsure about how to manage your domain names, it is generally best to register them via the people who you plan to have develop your website and manage your email. Web Splash offers full domain management and administration services, including domain name registration.
